Why do we love Dolly?
Her ability to laugh at herself with statements like "It takes a lot of money to make a person look this cheap!" endear Dolly to us all. But under all that glitz, glitter, and blonde hair resides a musical talent that has rarely been equaled in the music field. From her humble roots, one of twelve children growing up in a cabin in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, this singer, songwriter, and musician rose to the pinnacle of country music. She could have rested on her country music laurels but chose to take on Hollywood and succeeded in such films as 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias, more than holding her own with Hollywood heavyweights Jane Fonda, Sally Field, and Shirley McLaine.
