The DOLs Man of the Year 2001
- 2001 -

Apollo

The Greek God Apollo ruled the sun, hauling it up into the sky every day with his chariot pulled by flame-breathing horses. He was worshipped as the god of music and poetry, the deity of sportsmen, and the overall embodiment of what good men should be. His symbol was the laurel wreath and the ancient Greeks bestowed laurel wreaths upon the most learned and accomplished men of their society to show that they bore Apollo's favor.

The DOLs have always recognized the best and brightest of men, so in the tradition of the Greeks, we have bestowed our laurels upon deserving men who achieved the Apollonian ideals in several modern categories in 2001. Though the DOLs are partial to a pretty face, we have always believed that beauty is only deepened by other virtues, and our selections reflect this. From our list of varied and deserving nominees, we voted for Man of the Year in five categories and overall. There may be a few surprises among our winners, which only demonstrates the breadth of manhood the DOLs appreciate.
