It is the rare leader who makes as much, if not more, of an impact after he leaves office. Though some might argue that President James Earl Carter couldn't do much worse than he did while in office, he did leagues better. Famous for brokering an historic peace agreement between Egypt and Israel as President of the United States (which earned those countries' respective leaders the Nobel Peace Prize), President Carter has devoted his post-presidential career to humanitarian concerns from building housing and futures for the poor with Habitat for Humanity to feeding the starving in Africa and Asia to serving as ambassador and go-between for America to countless trouble spots in the world. In recognition of all he has done, President Carter was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. For those same reasons, he has also been awarded the DOLs Media/Politics Man of the Year.
"For his unending endeavors of working for peace. We live in a world of uncertainty of war breaking out and it's heartening to see some believe in Peace and striving for it is hopeful for our future."
